The Cottage After a Good Cleaning
After remodeling
Almost Done!

SK Sartell & husband Ron, take on a oversized design project. This sadly neglected cottage needed their help. With inspiration and hard work this cottage home came back to life, revealing a hidden jewel.

The back of the house has been cleaned and the landscape taken care of.  The roof looks new after a good pressure washing.
What a  hidden jewel. But what a mess to begin with.

The concrete patio off the kitchen is old, stained and cracked. I have decided to use the random cracks to carve vines and leaves with a Roto-Zip.  http://www.rotozip.com/

I  acid stained the carvings to give interest. This will take away from the ugly cracked mess.  We were fortunate to save the concrete patio,  saving us a couple of thousand dollars in replacement costs.

I truly believe we can use practical methods to be green and re-use materials at hand.

Many hard hours later! The kitchen is finally gutted. Three layers of flooring were removed and all the old dented metal cabinets are in the back yard ready to be hauled to the dump.

The exposed brick chimney in the kitchen is a great design find.

I have placed several stainless steel medallions in the floor to tie in the stainless counter we are going to re-use.
This picture below is the cabinets being put in. The black marble makes a stunning backsplash.

I had an interesting time installing the black marble. I learned how to polish edges of cut marble on this job.

Hickory Cabinetry, re-using the existing  15' stainless steel counter. What an amazing find.

The fireplace has been updated with a cream travertine marble. The cool antique air vent is re-painted painted with a heat paint and replaced. The firebox has been steam cleaned and painted with a fire paint.

We will be putting on a mocha colored painted wood mantle

What a mess!

 A new fireplace facade
This old dark paint made the room look small and closed in. We have painted it a light vanilla and glazed mocha for an antique feel. All the window trim, baseboards and mantle are painted a mocha color to stand out from the walls.

The old fireplace sure looks better than the spray painted brick of the original fireplace.      Fireplace

Bath before remodel

   Bath demolition
The bath was very oddly designed. We have gutted it, removed the old Formica surround and glass shower doors. The shower surround is now custom tile and we have made the counter double in size with two sinks. We have also made a second doorway into the master bedroom

Bath tile
SK is challenged to transform this old  bath into a great master bath.
